Day 1-4 Kinabalu National Park
A 6-Day birdwatching tour enjoying the rich and colourful avifauna of Borneo’s tropical forests. The first destination and also the highlight of this tour to visit Mount Kinabalu National Park, this lush vegetation has attracted numerous wild animals and birds to build their habitats here. Therefore, Borneo is definitely the best place for bird-watching activities. The Whitehead’s Trogon, Whitehead’s Broadbill, Bornean Laughing-thrush, Golden-naped Barbet , and many other unique bird species are not something you can find easily in other places such as Black-breasted Fruithunter, Mountain Black-eye, Bornean Stubtail and variety of montane Borneo endemic bird species like Chestnut-crested Yuhina, Bornean Flowerpecker, Bornean treepie, warbler, jungle flycatchers, wren-babbler, laughing-thrush, forktail, bulbul, and many more.
Days 1-4 Kinabalu National Park
The highest mountain in Southeast Asia, also listed by the United Nations as a World Natural Heritage.It has the world’s largest Rafflesia flower and oak trees, orchids, rhododendrons, pitcher plants, and other exotic lush vegetation. It attracts countless wild animals, insects and birds inhabiting and breeding here. It is the first choice for viewing Borneo native birds.There are 52 endemic bird species in Borneo, and there are as many as 24 in Kinabalu National Park! Among them, “Whitehead’s Trogon”, “Whitehead’s Broadbill” and “Whitehead’s Spiderhunter” are known as “3W The main target bird species that attract birdwatchers from all over the world to come to God Mountain National Park.
In addition, there are other rare bird species such as “Borneo Short-tailed Warbler”, “Borneo Black Noise”, “Borneo Pseudo woodpecker”, “Borneo Blue Winged Leaf Owl”, “Green-Black White-eye Bird”, “Black “Busted cuckoos” … are Borneo-specific bird species that belong to mountains 1,300 meters and above.In addition, there are pictures of the most eco-photographers when “Chestnut-crowned pheasant” feeds young birds on the branches, and “Taiming Sunbird” and “Black-crowned White-eye Bird” are full of different ways of pecking flowers.All in all bird watching and bird shooting in Kinabalu National Park is an extremely exciting and fun activity.
Chestnut-crested Yuhina, Chestnut-hooded Laughing-trush, Little Pied Flycatcher, Black-capped White-eye and Temminck’s Sunbird are the most active birds, it can be always seeing in folk, a group of family of them, a pair of them and some are rearing the young.
“Chestnut Cormorants” are found in groups everywhere, and the fruit trees there are great places for them to feed and feed their young birds. That kind of picture is the favorite of eco salon photography.
“Taiming’s Sunbird” and “Black-crowned White-eye Bird” The various ways of pecking flowers are also the favorite of salon photography.And it has to be shot from morning to night.Generally, if there is a rainy day, we will arrange to shoot these two bird species as well as “Borneo pecking birds”, “small spotted pheasants”, “mountain leaf warbler” and so on.
Day 5 Poring
The second destination is to visit Poring searching of lowland jungle bird species such as Gold-whiskered Barbet, Red-throated Barbet, White-crowned Shama, Rufous Kingfisher, Black And Yellow Broadbill, Banded Broadbill, Scaly-breasted Bulbul, Greater Leafbird, and many others jungle flycatchers, flowerpeckers, malkohas, hawk-cuckoos and woodpeckers.
Day 5 Bowling Hot Spring
The next stop will experience the mild sunshine and climate of the semi-alpine rainforest. The most approachable endemic species there are “white-crowned black cormorants” and “green-backed forest cormorants” with gorgeous feathers like a set of shawls are also regulars here. And other kinds of pecking birds, spiders often attract the lush flowers here. If you are lucky, you can also see Rafflesia (the world’s largest flower) bloom!
Recent bird status:
Recently, I have seen “three-toed emerald”, “brown-bellied cuckoo”, “mountain blue fairy owl”, “green-backed forest owl” and some other rare bird species, but now they can be seen. And “White-crowned Blackbird” (a unique bird species of Borneo) has become a long visitor here with its bright and beautiful singing.
March- June is the period of Rafflesia blooming ( the world largest flower ). Sometime we have chances to see the Rafflesia booming along the way ahead to the next destination. Normally the species of blooming along the way at Poring are Rafflesia Keith-eye, the sizes around 76-80 cm.
March to June is the period when the “King King Flower” is in full bloom and can be seen on the way to Poring.
The next destination will be going to visit Crocker Range / Rafflesia Centre, a lowland forest as our final destination of this 6-Day tour, here we searching of those endemic bird species like Mountain Barbet, Bornean Barbet, Bornean Leafbird, Bornean Bulbul, and others bird species like Cuckoo Dove, Sunda Bush-warbler, spiderhunters, sunbirds and many more.
Day 6 Crocker Range (Rafflesia Centre)
Recent bird status:
It is relatively easy to see “Mountain-like woodpecker”, “Borneo-like woodpecker”, “Borneo blue-winged pheasant” and “Borneo black-headed yellow pheasant”. These alpine endemic bird species are extremely difficult to find in Shenshan Park. Because they are hiding in deep alpine rain forests, they often hear only the sound but not the birds.

Itinerary :
Day 1-4
Kinabalu National Park
We will depart in the early morning from Kota Kinabalu. The whole journey will take 2 1/2 hours drive to Kinabalu National Park.
Day 5
Poring
Ahead to Poring in the very early morning from Kundasang / Kinabalu National Park, it will take around 45 minutes drive.
Day 6
Crocker Range ( Rafflesia Centre )
After the trip at Poring, we will stay a night in the nearest hotel at Kundasang / Ranau. The next early morning will ahead to Crocker Range ( Refflesia Centre ).
Back to Kota Kinabalu in the late afternoon.
